OK, so we know that those early weeks of baby arriving are wonderful, but they don’t half wreck havoc on your back, neck and shoulders.
Carrying baby around and feeding baby – bottle or breast makes us sit slightly hunched over for extended periods of time. And the weight of hormonal boobs can be a complete shocker! Having large breasts ourselves anyway – we experienced back pain just from the sheer size of those bad boys!!
Please take a minute to study the illustration of how to carry out this a “back-saving” stretch for all mums (and dads actually). We found that it really helps with early tension, but is also handy all the way through parenting. Regularly carrying out these stretches will help with the strain of carrying/lifting and bending with babies and toddlers – it also helps with the ‘shoulders up round your ears’ reaction to toddler tantrums and teenage sass!
It’s a good all rounder whatever stage you are at! Try and tack it on to a routine you already have, like brushing your teeth or making your morning cuppa! Leave a post it note by the kettle or toothbrush that says ‘stretch’ to jog your memory! Illustration by the awesome @kaybarkerillustrations
Wow, doesn’t time fly?
We just can’t believe it’s already been three months since we published our book “The Little Book of Self Care for New Mums”.
Here at the Mother Box, life since the book launch has been completely surreal – we’ve been lucky enough to be invited to talk at all sorts of book launch events and have loved being able to talk about and actually see our new baby being sold in bookshops (in all its “Kay Barker illustrated” glory!!).
One of the things we’re SO thankful for is that the support and reviews from all you amazing mammas has been so positive. We’ve been lucky enough to become an Amazon best-seller and listed at Oli B’s which means more and more mums will see our book and hopefully more independents will choose to stock us.
Thanks to anyone who has bought or read our book and an especially big thank you to those that have posted positive reviews – it really makes a difference helping us get the word out there!
Here’s just a small selection of what’s been written so far;
Frasers Fun House
Books and Lovely Things
Pale Girl Rambling
The Beautiful Bluebird
Hannah’s Life Diaries
Being first-time authors, we knew there would be a certain amount of promotional work required to get our book out there, but we had no idea that would mean promoting the “Little Book of Self Care for New Mums” with huge YouTube influencers!
The good news was that Georgie from SheerLuxe had both read and liked the book (#win!) and she was so kind to us in our interview.
We don’t normally “love” being in front of the camera, but we actually really loved this experience!
